EDTA

This ingredient EDTA is used as a chelating agent in cosmetic and skincare products. A chelating agent is there to increase the stability of the product and to inactivate metallic ions from interfering with the action of the active ingredients.

A chelating agents is a compounds (also referred to as sequestrants) that binds, and thereby inactivate, with (complex with) metallic ions which may have an adverse effect on the stability of a skincare product, and in cases where iron and copper ions are chelated it helps to retard oxidative deterioration of the product.

It is a substituted diamine and is classified as a chelating agent and is chemically classed as a alkyl-substituted amino acid.
